Millet is a gluten-free and thoroughly healthy ingredient. The plant from the family of sweet grasses is very resilient, has a short vegetation period, can cope with a lack of water and even produces yields where other cereal types no longer grow. We have known for centuries that millet makes «skin, hair and nails look beautiful». In Europe, millet has been experiencing a renaissance for several years, as it was recognised that millet has outstandingly positive ingredients and can therefore make an important contribution towards keeping the body healthy.
Millet was a staple food from as early as the Babylonians and the Etruscans. Scraps of millet types were found in the intestines of ancient Egyptian mummies, that are estimated to have been buried in 4,000 BC, in just the way it is still eaten today. As can be seen from very old drawings, millet was also known to the Chinese in as early as 3,000 BC.
In the Middle Ages, millet was also very important here, but was replaced in the 19th century by potatoes, maize and rice. Only in the past few years has millet regained its importance as a healthy, gluten-free type of cereal. Millet is a true beauty tip, for millet provides important minerals and trace elements that are important for skin, hair and nails.
As with all other types of cereal, we find various processing options for millet. Goldhirse® is made from peeled, polished proso millet and then made less bitter with a special process. The Zwicky millet flakes are made from cleaned, peeled proso millet. It is important to know that Zwicky millet flakes are stabilised with their full nutritional value. This means that all valuable content of the intact millet grain is made durable by a special mechanical process (the Kollath method®) over an extended period of time.
The time-consuming production method for our golden millet oil is closely-guarded secret. It also touches upon the unique Kollath method® used only by Zwicky, which has been specially developed just for this purpose. After a 12-year development period we have been able to extract a pure oil from Goldhirse®. The result is unique. The valuable golden millet oil is the basis for our Hirsana golden millet oil capsules, which demonstrably ensure beautiful hair, skin and nails.
